It was in the 1970s that the concept of Bed and Breakfast (or BnB) started in Scotland. BnB is a small lodging establishment that offers overnight accommodation and breakfast, but usually does not offer other meals. Gradually, America and other countries in Europe followed suit. In India, the BnB concept may be pretty recent (having been introduced only in 2005), but already it's gaining popularity with appreciation coming in not just from within the country but even abroad. The Indian State Government gave the green signal to many Indian families with the right infrastructure to offer BnB -- the idea being to offer accommodation to the budget tourist, both from here and across the globe, and give people a chance to interact on a much closer, informal level with the host's family, away from the confines of the formal five-star set-up. |
